Interim order issued on bond scam suspects: No arrest for Ravi K

The Court of Appeal today issued an interim order staying the operation of an arrest warrant issued against former Minister Ravi Karunanayake in connection with the Central Bank (CBSL) bond scam in 2016.

The Colombo Fort Magistrate issued warrants on Karunanayake and six others in March 2020 after taking into consideration the representations made by Attorney General (AG) Dappula de Livera.

The Attorney General (AG) directed the Inspector General of Police to obtain arrest warrants for Karunanayake, former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran, Director of Perpetual Treasuries Limited (PTL) Arjun Aloysius, CEO of PTL Kasun Palisena, former Director of the Public Debt Department of CBSL Sarathchandra and several others.

The warrant has been issued on charges of criminal misappropriation, cheating, conspiracy, and market manipulation in connection to bond auctions of March 2016. (Newswire)
