Missing Kurunegala Mayor appears in public after arrest warrant suspended

The Mayor of Kurunegala Thushara Sanjeewa Vitharane appeared in public today after court suspended his arrest warrant yesterday.

6 police teams were deployed to arrest the Mayor over the last few days but the Police said he was missing.

Kurunegala Mayor later filed a writ petition with the Court of Appeal seeking to prevent his arrest.

The Court of Appeal thereafter suspended the warrants till 24 August, following which the Kurunegala Mayor was found by the side of Highways Minister Johnston Fernando in Kurunegala today.

The Kurunegala Mayor and 04 others were accused of demolishing a building, identified as the 13th Century King’s Court of King Bhuvanaikabahu II, dating back to the Kurunegala / Yapahuwa Kingdom Era, for a road development project. (NewsWire)
