Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Ranjan Ramanayake will lose his Parliamentary seat in another 06-months, the National Election Commission announced.
Chairman of the Commission Nimal Punchihewa said the MP will lose his Parliament seat due to being imprisoned on charges of slandering the judiciary.
The Supreme Court yesterday sentenced Ranjan Ramanayake to four years rigorous imprisonment.
Meanwhile, legal experts have said MP Ramanayake may lose his civil rights following the completion of his 04- year jail term.
They said this will technically rule him out of politics for nearly 11 years.
However, MP Ramanayake’s legal team told NewsWire, that it was aware of the situation and was looking into the matter. (NewsWire)
