Former Sri Lanka cricket legend Sanath Jayasuriya has denied media reports linking him to the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) elections.

The Morning had reported that Jayasuriya was contesting the SLC elections for the role of President, along side current President Shammi Silva and former Vice President K. Mathivanan.

Sharing the news report on social media, Sanath Jayasuriya said ‘I must state that all reports of my contesting the forthcoming SLC elections are false’.

When inquired in this regard, the former Sri Lanka skipper told NewsWire, he will not get involved in the Sri Lanka Cricket administration.

He further insisted that the news report on him contesting the SLC elections are false.

Last year, Jayasuriya was cleared by the International Cricket Council (ICC) to resume his participation in cricket following the end of his two years suspension.

Jayasuriya was charged in October 2019, after failing to provide his mobile phones to the ACU, while he was also accused of obstructing or delaying any investigation into corruption in the game. His suspension ended in the first week of November 2020. (NewsWire)
