Sri Lanka received another 500,000 doses of the Covishield vaccine from India today.
Acting Health minister Professor Channa Jayasumana said the new stock of vaccines arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake.
The new stock of vaccine doses were purchased under an agreement signed between the State Pharmaceuticals Corporation of Sri Lanka and the Serum Institute of India.
The COVID-19 vaccine doses are the second batch of vaccines to be received from India.
Sri Lanka already received 500,000 doses of the Oxford AstraZeneca Covishield vaccine as a gift from India in January.
Meanwhile, the vaccination of people above the age of 60 is to commence in several areas.
The Medical Officer of Health Department in Dehiwela announced it will commence administering the COVID-19 vaccine to people above the age of 60 from tomorrow (26) at Dehiwela MMC premises.
Dehiwela Municipal Council member Chris Balthazar said following the completion of the vaccination of people above the age of 60, they will commence vaccinating people between the age of 30-60 from the area. (NewsWire)
