Sri Lanka tour of West Indies : update on Dasun Shanaka

February 26, 2021 at 5:46 PM

Sri Lanka T20 Captain Dasun Shanaka is yet to receive his transit Visa to the Unites States of America, further delaying his participation in the West Indies tour.

The delay in the Visa process may lead Shanaka to miss either one match of the T20 series or the entire series.

Sri Lanka will require to appoint a new T20 Captain for the team, in the event Shanaka is unable to join the squad.

A Vice Captain for the Sri Lanka T20 side has also not been named for the West Indies tour.
Former T20 Vice Captain Niroshan Dickwella, former Skipper Thisara Perera, and One Day International Captain Dimuth Karunaratne are leading contenders to be named as the T20 skipper for the Caribbean series, in place of Shanaka.

The latest development comes after T20 Skipper Dasun Shanaka was unable to join the National team to the West Indies due to a technical issue with the Visa process.

Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, Dasun Shanaka clarified that a delay in processing his transit visa to the United States of America had delayed his departure. (NewsWire)
