Drone operations will be conducted by the Police today, to monitor if the public are adhering to the islandwide travel restriction that has been enforced in Sri Lanka due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Police said the drone operations will be conducted in and around Colombo.

Pointing out that only employees of essential services have been permitted to travel during this period, the Police urged others to remain at home.

Meanwhile, 160 people in 100 vehicles have been warned and turned away for attempting to violate the inter-province travel ban which is in effect in line with the islandwide travel restriction.

The Police said 3,051 people in 1,757 vehicles were inspected at the 14 entry/ exit points of the Western Province yesterday.

They added that several roadblocks have been set up to inspect vehicles today as well, while Police mobile patrols have also been deployed for this purpose. (NewsWire)
