700 roadblocks in WP to monitor public

700 roadblocks will be set up across the Western Province (WP) today, in line with the lifting of the islandwide travel restriction. 

Police spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said 37 of the roadblocks will be permanent while the remaining will be snap roadblocks. 

He further said 10,000 police officers will be deployed in both uniform and civil attire under three service categories. 

These officers will conduct foot, mobile, and motorcycle patrols to ensure that the public is strictly following the newly issued health guidelines on COVID-19.

The Director-General of Health Services has issued new guidelines which will be in effect from today till the 5th of July. 

DIG Ajith Rohana warned that action will be taken against those violating the updated health guidelines during this period. (NewsWire)
