A woman has been arrested for acting in a suspicious manner at the Government quarantine centre established in the Naiwala area in Veyangoda for women returning from abroad.

Police spokesman Senior Deputy Inspector General (SDIG) Ajith Rohana said authorities of the centre had informed the Veyangoda Police of the suspicious behaviour of the woman after she was seen gathering information about other women at the centre.

Further investigations by the Police had revealed that the woman, who is a resident of Mullaitivu, had left for Saudi Arabia in February 2019 under a fake name and forged documents.

SDIG Ajith Rohana said the Veyangoda Police arrested the woman after she had completed her mandatory quarantine process yesterday.

He said the woman will be produced before the Attanagalla Magistrate’s Court today.

The Veyangoda Police is conducting further investigations to ascertain why the suspect was collecting information about the other women undergoing quarantine at the Government quarantine centre. (NewsWire)
