Monk remanded for assaulting nurse in Anamaduwa

A monk who was arrested for assaulting a nurse attached to the Anamaduwa Hospital has been remanded till the 2nd of August.

According to reports, the monk who was suffering from fever had been subjected to a PCR test at the hospital.

He had assaulted the nurse by hitting her with an object due to pain caused to his nose as a result of the test. 

The Police said the nurse who had sustained critical injuries in the incident has been admitted to the Kurunegala Hospital. 

The monk who was arrested following the incident was remanded after being produced before the Anamaduwa Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

The Police said the obstruction and assault of health workers and government officials engaged in Covid-related duties is a punishable offence. 

They warned that stern action will be taken against those found to be obstructing the duties of health authorities and Government officials during the coronavirus pandemic. (NewsWire)
