A group of individuals who had attempted to leave without obtaining the Covid vaccine after authorising the vaccine card at a vaccination centre have been arrested by the Police.

According to Ada Derana, the individuals were arrested at the Covid vaccination centre that was operating at the Sangamiththa Balika Vidyalaya in Galle today (09).

The vaccination centre was administering the first and second dose of the Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine.

A security officer at the vaccination centre had observed a group of individuals trying to leave without obtaining the vaccine after filling and authorising their vaccine cards.

Interrogations of the individuals had revealed that they had arrived to authorize the vaccine card but not obtain the vaccine.

The Galle Police have launched an investigation into the matter, while it is suspected if the group had behaved in a similar manner when obtaining the first dose of the Covid vaccine.

An official at the vaccination centre told the media that such actions have a grave impact on the data of the vaccination drive currently underway in Sri Lanka.

The official said it further affects the review conducted on vaccinated individuals in the country. (NewsWire)
