Several new digital initiatives including Digital NIC from next year

The National Identity Card (NIC) of Sri Lanka will be digitalised during the first quarter of 2022, State Minister of Digital Technology Namal Rajapaksa said today.

Minister Rajapaksa said the public will be issued world-class digital NICs from next year.

“Similar to receiving the same number for both the birth and death certificates, the digital NIC will be provided so that it could be detected via fingerprint, facial or eye recognitions, and biometric systems,” he said.

Minister Namal Rajapaksa said measures are also being taken to profile health, agriculture, and fertilizer cards to be digitized from next year.

He also said that as pat of the digitising process in Sri Lanka, even paying of traffic fines will be digitalised. (NewsWire)
