Former Minister Basil Rajapaksa today cracked a joke on the famous chant used for him by anti-government protesters across the country.
The chant originated after the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna member referred to crows in the Sinhala term as ‘Kaputas” when speaking during an English interview.
Anti-government protesters at the Galle Face Green calling for a system change have since formed a chant incorporating the Sinhala term and the name of former MP Basil Rajapaksa.
Addressing the media today to announce his decision to step down as a member of Parliament, Basil Rajapaksa cracked a joke on the now-famous chant.
“It’s my ringing tone now as it says Basil Basil Basil, which is my name” the former MP joked with reporters. (NewsWire)
