The Centre for Policy Alternatives (CPA) has released the results of its Confidence in Democratic Governance Index- Wave 3 survey which was conducted by its survey and research arm Social Indicator.
Given the economic and political crisis, Sri Lanka is facing, this poll was designed with the aim of capturing the public experience, their opinion on the Aragalaya, and various aspects of the current economic and political crisis.
As per the survey, Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake leads the survey on trust in leaders to do the right thing to resolve the economic crisis with a poll of 48.5%.
President Ranil Wickremesinghe follows next with 36.6%, followed by Opposition leader Sajith Premadasa with 29.1% and Dullas Alahapperuma with 23.7%.
In the survey pertaining to the perception of youth who lead the ‘GotaGoGama’ Aragalaya, 84.3% of people believe that it is led by civic-minded youth with the aim of reforming the country to a better democracy.
Nearly 82% of people disagree that the youth who are involved in the Aragalaya is connected to violent groups.
Also, 83.4% of people are in agreement with the demands of the protesters/public calling for the establishment of an All-Party interim government until the country overcomes the economic crisis.
75.6% of people are in agreement that the Executive Presidential System should be completely abolished, while 86.9% of the people agreed that the 20th Amendment to the Constitution must be repealed.
The survey on the household difficulties due to the economic crisis shows 83.1% of people agreed to a change in the quality of food or food items purchased on a regular basis.
