Sri Lanka’s dengue death toll has climbed to 68 this year, with health authorities reporting a case fatality rate of 0.075%, according to the latest surveillance data from the National Dengue Control Unit.
As of midnight on August 12, the total number of dengue cases in 2026 has reached 91,059.
The highest monthly caseload was recorded in July with 29,971 cases, followed by June (21,533) and May (8,590). August has already seen 5,714 cases reported.
District‑level data show Gampaha leading with 19,406 cases (21.31%), closely followed by Colombo with 18,901 cases (20.76%). Other high‑burden districts include Kandy (8,146), Matara (6,318), and Kalutara (5,998).
By province, the Western Province accounts for more than half of the national total, reporting 48,244 cases (52.98%). The Southern Province follows with 13,146 cases (14.44%), while the Central Province has 10,234 cases (11.24%).
Health officials also flagged 119 high‑risk MOH areas during Week 31 of 2026, with an average of 1,509 new cases per day.
Authorities continue to urge communities to remain vigilant, stressing that Sri Lanka’s industrial and urban zones remain particularly vulnerable to mosquito breeding, and that coordinated prevention measures are critical to curbing the spread. (Newswire)
