A 23‑year‑old woman has died after being struck by lightning in the Handapanagala Kenhatha area, within the Wellawaya Divisional Secretariat Division.
The victim, a resident of Kenhatha, had gone to call back her parents who were working in the field near their home.
She had handed them an umbrella due to the rain and was returning when the tragic incident occurred.
She was killed instantly at the scene following the lightning strike. (Newswire)
