Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund Kristalina Georgieva visited the Central Bank of Sri Lanka on Tuesday during her official visit to the country.
The visit coincides with the 75th anniversary of Sri Lanka’s membership in the IMF and the 75th anniversary of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.
During a meeting at the Central Bank, Georgieva met Governor Nandalal Weerasinghe and senior officials.
Governor Weerasinghe expressed appreciation for the IMF’s support under the current Extended Fund Facility program and for its role in facilitating the completion of Sri Lanka’s debt restructuring process.
He also acknowledged the IMF’s technical assistance in areas including monetary policy, macroeconomic modeling, macroprudential analysis and financial sector policies.
Georgieva described Sri Lanka’s performance under the current IMF program as a success story and commended the Central Bank’s role in restoring macroeconomic stability following the economic crisis.
Noting the setbacks faced by the country in recent years, she said Sri Lanka is positioned to achieve higher growth if necessary structural reforms are implemented and sustained. (Newswire)
