The National Council for Road Safety (NCRS) has announced that the mandatory seat belt regulations for motorists and passengers travelling on expressways in Sri Lanka comes into full effect from today (20).
According to the NCRS, the mandatory seat belt regulations come into force following the expiry of the grace period granted for implementation.
Under the regulations, all occupants travelling in vehicles on expressways must wear seat belts, including passengers seated in the rear.
The government had previously introduced a grace period to allow motorists and passengers to comply with the new requirements. That period ended on Friday (19).
Accordingly, authorities said the regulations will now be strictly enforced, and motorists are urged to ensure compliance to enhance road safety and reduce the severity of injuries in traffic accidents. (Newswire)
