Former Sri Lanka fast bowler Chaminda Vaas has raised concerns over the standards of the country’s cricket coaching system, warning against the indiscriminate distribution of high-level coaching certificates.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Vaas said handing out Level 3 coaching certificates to “anyone” does not strengthen but instead weakens Sri Lanka’s coaching structure.
“A certificate must represent knowledge, skill, and dedication. Our game deserves quality coaches, not shortcuts,” he wrote.
Vaas, regarded as one of Sri Lanka’s finest fast bowlers, has been actively involved in coaching and player development after retirement. His comments come amid growing debate over the criteria and oversight in awarding advanced coaching qualifications in the country. (Newswire).
