Police have taken into custody 16 modified motorcycles and their riders during a special operation in Bandaragama, following public complaints about noise and reckless riding during Vesak celebrations.
Among the seized vehicles were four high-powered motorcycles believed to be assembled using illegally imported parts. Investigations also revealed that all 16 bikes had altered silencers, creating excessive noise that alarmed pedestrians and other road users.
The arrested youths, residents of areas including Boralesgamuwa, Kesbewa, Bandaragama, Dodangoda, Kalutara, Homagama, and Ingiriya, have been released on police bail. They are scheduled to be produced before court on a later date, police confirmed. (Newswire)
