The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal by the President of Sri Lanka to donate one million US dollars to the Government of Nepal as humanitarian assistance following the devastating landslide disaster in the Rasuwa District of northern Nepal.

The disaster, which struck on August 26, claimed numerous lives, left many missing, and caused extensive damage to property and infrastructure.

Nepalese authorities continue search operations for missing persons amid warnings of further flooding and widespread destruction of essential facilities.

Sri Lanka’s decision was framed around the deep cultural, religious, and longstanding ties between the two nations, as well as concern over the severe humanitarian and economic impacts of the tragedy. (Newswire)
