Minister Nalinda discloses sharp contrast in foreign travel costs of AKD and Ranil

Minister Nalinda Jayatissa, speaking in Parliament, disclosed the foreign travel expenditure of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and his predecessor Ranil Wickremesinghe.

According to the details presented, former President Ranil Wickremesinghe made 24 overseas trips during 2022–2024, accompanied by 385 participants in total. The combined cost of these visits amounted to Rs. 1,007.346 million. This included four trips in 2022 costing Rs. 129.31 million, 16 trips in 2023 costing Rs. 577.9 million, and five trips in 2024 at a cost of Rs. 300 million.

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, in contrast, has undertaken eight foreign visits from December 2024 to September 2025. These trips—to India, China, the UAE, Vietnam, Germany, the Maldives, and a combined US–Japan tour—have cost a total of Rs. 14.9 million, Jayatissa added.
