Several weapons, explosives and wild animal remains have been recovered during a special raid conducted in the Kalawewa North area under the ‘Hasthi Sena’ operation.

The raid was jointly carried out by the Sri Lanka Army and officers of the Department of Wildlife Conservation as part of ongoing efforts to prevent illegal hunting and protect wildlife.

During the operation, authorities recovered guns, cartridges, bullets, gunpowder, snares and Hakka Patas (explosive bait), which are commonly used for illegal hunting.

Hare meat and deer antlers were also discovered during the raid.

The operation was conducted under the ‘Hasthi Sena’ initiative, which aims to protect wild elephants and minimise human-elephant conflict.

Authorities said such joint operations are being carried out to prevent illegal hunting activities and ensure the protection of wild animals. (Newswire)
