Iran has accused US President Donald Trump of attempting to buy time and influence global energy markets, amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East, according to Al Jazeera.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry, quoted by the country’s semi-official Mehr news agency, said there are no ongoing negotiations between Tehran and Washington. It claimed Trump’s recent statements are aimed at reducing energy prices while allowing time to advance military plans.
The statement further noted that while some regional countries are attempting to ease tensions, responsibility lies with Washington, which it described as “the party that started this war.”
Adding to the narrative, Iranian academic Seyed Mohammad Marandi suggested that Trump’s public remarks are strategically timed to impact oil markets. He claimed such statements are made at the start of trading weeks to push prices lower, asserting that there are no real negotiations underway.
Marandi also argued that recent developments indicate the US may be stepping back under pressure, though these claims have not been independently verified.
The comments come as global oil prices have declined following Trump’s decision to delay potential military action targeting Iran’s energy infrastructure, easing immediate fears of supply disruptions. (Newswire)
