Jan 1st Dollar rate comparisons in SL

The Sri Lankan Rupee has depreciated significantly against the US Dollar on the first working day of 2026, compared to the first working day of last year, January 01, 2025, showing a difference of Rs. 16.75.

According to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, the buying rate of the US Dollar on 01 January 2026 has risen to Rs. 305.83, in comparison to the Rs. 289.08 recorded on 01 January 2025. 

The selling rate of the US Dollar has also increased to Rs. 313.42 today (01 Jan 2026), compared to Rs. 297.65 on 01 January 2025.

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka’s official dollar exchange rates over the past seven years have reflected sharp fluctuations in the rupee’s value.
