Two people were killed in separate incidents reported from Neluwa and Deraniyagala on Friday, with police launching investigations into both cases.
In the first incident, a 32-year-old woman was found murdered in the Happitiya area within the Neluwa Police Division during the early hours of Feb. 20. Police said the victim had sustained fatal injuries following an alleged assault.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the woman’s 34-year-old husband is suspected to have carried out the killing following a prolonged family dispute. He has been taken into custody.
The body has been placed at the Karapitiya Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination. Neluwa Police are conducting further inquiries.
In a separate incident reported from the Udamaliboda area in the Deraniyagala Police Division on Friday evening, a 32-year-old man was allegedly attacked with a sharp weapon and killed.
Police said initial investigations indicate that the suspect, identified as the victim’s father-in-law, had assaulted him following a personal dispute. Efforts are underway to arrest the suspect.
The body has been placed at the Deraniyagala Hospital morgue pending a post-mortem examination. Deraniyagala Police are continuing investigations. (Newswire)
