A male teacher from a school in the Dewinuwara area has been arrested by the Matara Division’s Child and Women’s Bureau over an alleged sexual abuse case involving a student, Ada Derana reported.
According to the Bureau, the suspect served as an English teacher at the school and had reportedly become close to the student due to her keen interest and performance in the subject. Authorities say the arrest was made based on several complaints and a statement recorded from the victim.
The girl has been referred to the Matara General Hospital for medical examination, while the teacher is expected to be produced before court on charges of sexual abuse and attempting to lure a minor into sexual activity. (Newswire)
