Three former officials of the Department of Motor Traffic have been arrested over the alleged fraudulent registration and transfer of vehicles, the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) said.

The arrests were made between 9.05 a.m. and 9.25 a.m. today following an investigation into irregular vehicle registrations.

According to CIABOC, the suspects include a former Development Assistant (Road Safety), a former Investigation Assistant, and a former Assistant Commissioner of the Department of Motor Traffic.

Investigations have revealed that three vehicles without lawful initial registration had allegedly been transferred illegally. Authorities said one suspect is accused of entering data to facilitate the unlawful transfer, another of issuing window numbers for the transfers, and the third of approving the illegal ownership changes.

The suspects are due to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.

The arrests were carried out by officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption, which said further investigations are ongoing. (Newswire)
