Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has raised concerns over a severe shortage of cancer treatment drugs and other essential medicines in Sri Lanka, urging the government to take immediate action to address the issue.
Addressing Parliament today (06), Premadasa claimed that patients were facing serious difficulties due to shortages affecting both government and private healthcare institutions.
He highlighted the reported unavailability of several essential medicines, including Adrenaline, Atropine, Piriton, Ondansetron, Maxolon, Phenergan and Hydrocortisone.
Premadasa claimed that some of these medicines were unavailable even in private hospitals, raising concerns over access to essential medical treatment.
He further warned that shortages of cancer treatment drugs and other medicines were placing an additional burden on patients seeking medical care.
The Opposition Leader urged the government to pay immediate attention to the situation and take urgent measures to ensure the uninterrupted supply of essential medicines across the country’s healthcare system. (Newswire)
