
Kotahena Police have arrested a suspect who was transporting a large stock of diesel worth over Rs. 600,000 without a valid licence.
Police took into custody 2,000 litres of diesel packed in ten barrels, each containing 200 litres.
The arrest was made during a night patrol by officers from the Kotahena Police Station, following information received from the Western Province Intelligence Unit. The suspect was intercepted while driving a fully covered lorry along George R. De Silva Mawatha.
Upon inspection, officers discovered the diesel stock concealed in ten barrels inside the vehicle.
During questioning, the suspect had revealed that the fuel was being transported for sale, according to police.
The arrested driver is a 25-year-old resident of Nawalapitiya. (NewsWire)
