Lasith Malinga has urged Sri Lanka to resist the temptation of making wholesale changes ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup, stressing the need to persist with a settled squad. Speaking on the Podhub Podcast, Malinga said that moving from domestic cricket to the international stage takes time and rushing players into the setup could backfire.
He noted that Sri Lanka has repeatedly erred by looking for quick fixes before major tournaments, leading to unsettled sides taking the field. Instead, he advised sticking with the current group, with only minor adjustments such as including more wicket-taking fast bowling options.
Malinga added that while certain players could be fast-tracked from the domestic circuit, it should only be done with careful consideration of their ability to handle pressure and win matches.
His remarks come in the wake of Sri Lanka’s disappointing Asia Cup campaign, where despite winning all three group stage games, the team failed to secure a single victory in the Super Four, including a dramatic super over defeat against India. (Newswire)
