
Sri Lankan Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya and her delegation returned to the country this morning (23 Jan) after a successful four‑day official visit to Davos, Switzerland, where they attended the 2026 Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum.
During the summit from January 19 to 22, the Prime Minister held extensive discussions with leading global state leaders, heads of international financial institutions, and business leaders on strengthening Sri Lanka’s future economic path.
PM Harini Amarasuriya was accompanied by Labour Minister and Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning Dr. Anil Jayantha Fernando, along with a high‑level delegation.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, a highlight of the visit was bilateral discussions with Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and Masatsugu Asakawa, President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), on securing support to ensure Sri Lanka’s financial stability.
She also met Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and UNDP Administrator Alexander De Croo, further expanding international relations and reinforcing global confidence in Sri Lanka.
Clarifying Sri Lanka’s policy stance on the global stage, the Prime Minister delivered a special address at the ‘World Women Davos Agenda 2026’ meeting and contributed to high‑level stakeholder dialogues on employment challenges in emerging markets and global skills development.
Additionally, she joined a top‑level dialogue at the Global Tourism Forum (GTF) to promote Sri Lanka’s vision for the future of its tourism sector.
To broaden investment opportunities, the Prime Minister held talks with leaders of international companies such as AP Moller‑Maersk and members of the Swiss business community, while also undertaking observation visits to several vocational training institutions in Switzerland.
Meeting with Sri Lankan entrepreneurs based in Switzerland, the Prime Minister focused on securing their contributions toward the country’s development.
The PM’s Office added that this successful diplomatic mission enabled the Prime Minister and her delegation to turn a new page in international cooperation in support of Sri Lanka’s future development agenda. (Newswire)
