The 2026 G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination will commence on Monday, August 10 and continue until September 5, with arrangements finalised to conduct the examination across the country.
According to the Department of Examinations, 2,532 examination centres have been established islandwide, along with 326 coordinating centres and 32 regional collection centres.
A total of 264,496 school candidates and 17,814 private candidates have applied to sit the examination, bringing the total number of candidates to 282,310.
All tuition classes, seminars and other activities related to the examination, including discussions or distribution of predicted questions through printed or electronic media, have been prohibited from midnight on August 4 until the examination concludes.
Security and emergency arrangements have also been coordinated with the Sri Lanka Police, Tri-Forces, Disaster Management Centre, Department of Meteorology, National Building Research Organisation, electricity authorities, transport services and health authorities.
Admission cards have already been provided to school candidates through their principals, while those of private candidates have been sent to their registered addresses.
Candidates have been reminded to ensure that their signature on the admission card is properly certified and to carry an accepted form of identification to the examination centre. The National Identity Card, a valid driving licence or a valid passport will be accepted as proof of identity.
Candidates who have lost their admission cards can download a new copy through the official website of the Department of Examinations, but the required signature must be certified before it is taken to the examination centre.
Candidates have also been urged to carefully check the revised examination timetable, including whether each paper is scheduled for the morning or afternoon session, and arrive at their designated examination centre at least one hour before the examination begins.
Mobile phones, smartwatches, Bluetooth devices and other electronic equipment, as well as notes, books and other unauthorised materials, are prohibited inside examination halls.
Candidates have been instructed to comply with all examination regulations and directions issued by examination officials throughout the examination. (Newswire)
