Easter Attacks : Prominent Lawyer arrested. 197 arrested so far says Police

Prominent lawyer Hejaaz Hizbullah has been arrested by the CID team conducting inquiries over the Easter Sunday attacks which claimed over 260 lives last year.

Police Spokesman Jaliya Senaratne at a press conference in Colombo confirmed the arrest.

Former Minister and ACMC Leader Rishad Bathiudeen’s brother Riyaj Bathiudeen was arrested by the Police yesterday as part of the same investigation.

Police spokesman said 119 persons have been arrested by CID so far over Easter Sunday attacks, out of which 40 of them are held under detention orders.

Apart from that, Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) has arrested 78 people & 52 of them are under detention orders according to Police spokesman.

Answering a question over the arrest of lawyer Hejaaz Hizbullah, Police spokesman said “This lawyer had connections with 2 of the bombers, he had also been part of an organisation these bombers were part of. Also we are investigating on some of the connection he had on planning these attacks” Police said.

Speaking on the arrest of Riyaj Bathiudeen, brother of former minister Rishad Bathuideen “He had connections with a suicide bomber, he had also held a meeting with one of the bombers in a hotel” Police spokesman said.
