A program to explain the role of the State Intelligence Service (SIS) in containing the spread of Coronavirus in Sri Lanka was broadcasted in State TV earlier today (02nd).

Assistant Director of SIS Parakrama Silva represented the SIS in this program.

He revealed that there are 31 clusters which spread Covid-19 in Sri Lanka and that 7 of them were large and impactful.

Such clusters identified are as follows:

1. Cluster of the Tourist Guide – 11th March

2. Cluster of the Gem Merchant – Beruwala

3. Foreign Cluster – Returnees from Italy, Dubai

4. Cluster of group of people returned from a religious event – Puttalam

5. Suduwella Cluster – Drug Addicts

6. Cluster in Bandaranayake Mawatha

7. Navy Cluster

Speaking on how the Navy soldiers were infected with the virus, Mr. Silva states that a group of Navy soldiers from Welisara Navy Camp were involved in arbitrarily taking a group of drug addicts from Suduwella for quarantine when they refused to go there.

Accordingly, a navy soldier from the Welisara Navy camp who was involved in this operation, was in contact with a soldier from the Electricians’ Unit of the same camp and that’s how the virus had spread among the navy soldiers.
