In a quick response to the request tendered by the GMOA, the Ministry of Health has removed Dr. Sarath Weerabandara, the incumbent Director of Kurunegala Teaching Hospital from his post and he has been transferred to the Ministry of Health immediately.

Government Medical Officers Association wrote to the Secretary of Ministry of Health (MoH) earlier in the week, requesting to investigate into the allegations hurled against the Director of Kurunegala Teaching Hospital (KTH) by the Kurunegala branch of GMOA, on his arbitrary and inefficient administration.

GMOA also stated in the letter that apart from their Kurunegala branch, every trade union active in the KTH have already written to the MoH on this, which depicts the seriousness of the issue.

Ministry of Health today confirmed that Dr. Sarath Weerabandara has been removed from his post.

Dr. Sarath Weerabandara came to limelight during the controversy regarding Dr. Shafi Sihabdeen last year.
