ICC unaware of Homagama International Cricket Stadium project

International Cricket Council says it didn’t sanction any loan or fund to construct a cricket stadium in Sri Lanka.

Speaking to News1st, Media and Communications Manager of the International Cricket Council Rajshekhar Rao has said that the ICC did not sanction any loan for the construction of a cricket stadium in Sri Lanka.

He went on to note that there  was no formal agreement or discussion on the matter, News1st further reported.

The country’s largest cricket stadium has planned to be constructed in a 26-acre state land in Diyagama, Homagama with a capacity of 60,000 at an estimated cost of US$ 30 to 40 million, Sri Lanka Goverment announced on Sunday.

Issuing a clarification, Sri Lanka Cricket said that the project will be an absolute and private investment of SLC and no government funds will be utilized and/or will be sought at any stage of the construction.

Earlier today former Govt MP Udaya Gammanpila said that the Homagama International Cricket ground is a fully funded project by International Cricket Council.
