The temporary director of Kurunegala teaching Hospital (KTH) Dr. Fareed, who was appointed by Health Ministry on the 05th of June, has decided to resign from his post following protests threats.

A lawyer named Indrasiri Senaratne claiming to be the chairman of an organization named “Mothers for Justice” had hosted a media briefing on Saturday (06th), alleging that the former Director of Kurunegala Teaching Hospital (KTH) was transferred in order to suppress the evidence against Dr. Shafi Sihabdeen in the investigation on sterilizing women.

He further went on to allege that the newly appointed director was a close associate of Dr. Shafi and Former Minister Rishad Bathiudeen.

He said a massive protest will be organised if the newly appointed director is not removed immediately.

The Health Ministry removed the Director  of the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital (KTH) Sarath Weerabandara because he had allegedly failed to prepare the institution to face the COVID 19 threat.

Following a period of one month, North Western Province Health Services Director Dr N Farid was appointed as acting director of the Kurunegala teaching hospital.
