Veteran Chef Pabilis Silva spoke to the media about the recent project carried out in the Mount Lavinia beach and the destruction it has caused to the world-renowned beach stretch.

“I came to Mount Lavinia Hotel way back in 1956 as a labourer. This beach stretch was so precious and beautiful back in the day. This area was considered a private beach area back in the day and Mr. Kothalawala used to come here every Sunday for a bath. I wouldn’t be wrong if I said that this beach was the main reason why our hotel became popular”.

He also said that the tourists who were spending time at the hotel were astonished to see the drastic changes the beach has gone through. “We don’t know who wished for this change. It is a huge crime. You can see the sands filled being washed away. None of the rocks you see now were visible before this atrocity took place”, he stated with seemingly being in utter dismay.

Last week, large amounts of waste had washed up on the Mount Lavinia beach. Clean-up activities at the beach commenced with the participation of the police, municipal council employees, and volunteer groups.

Meanwhile Dehiwela-Mount Lavaniya Municipal Council member Kris Balthazaar had posted the following note about the Mount Lavinia Beach Pollution.
