90 foreign players express interest as LPL confirmed from Aug 8th to 20th

The Government of Sri Lanka has given their consent today through the Sports Ministry for Sri Lanka Cricket to conduct the Lanka Premier League 2020 (LPL) from 8th to 20th August whereas 5 teams will be taking part in the tournament.

The much awaited confirmation of Lanka Premier League (LPL) arrived today, which will be held in three venues.

The rules of the tournament includes a rule which says that a maximum of six foreign players could be part of each team, whereas only four of them will be allowed to play in a particular match.

“Nearly 90 foreign players have expressed their interest to participate in the tournament so far, we will finalise the franchise owners by July 1st week” Sri Lanka Cricket chairman Shammi Silva told NewsWire.

A total of 13 matches will be played in the whole tournament, in which each team will lock horns against each other in the round robin phase, followed by the semifinals and the finals.

R Premadasa Stadium along with Rangiri Dambulla stadium will host the first round matches while semifinals and the final fixtures are scheduled to be played at Pallakele stadium in Kandy.

Player draft of the tournament is expected to take place on the 2nd week of July.
