Forty (40) incomplete investigation files pertaining to suspects arrested over the Easter Sunday terror attacks in 2019 were returned to the Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) by the Attorney General (AG) today.

Over 250 persons were killed and 500 were injured in the Easter Sunday terror attacks on 21 April 2019, which targeted 3 churches and 3 hotels across Sri Lanka.

The Coordinating Officer for the AG, State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne said various Police Stations had handed over a number of investigation reports on suspects arrested over the terror attacks to the AG’s Department for legal advice.

However, many of these reports, despite being mentioned as complete, were incomplete, and legal action could not be initiated, she said.

Attorney General Dappula de Livera had informed the Acting IGP in writing in this regard and had advised him to properly conclude the investigations and thereafter hand it over to the AG’s Department.

He had further stated that all incomplete investigation reports will be returned in the future, Nishara Jayaratne added.
