National Organizer of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Basil Rajapaksa says currently the party has been faced with responding to various statements made with regard to the party.

Addressing a political gathering Rajapaksa hinted that it would be a great service to the party if members and candidates made fewer statements.

He made this observation in connection to the recent statement made by SLPP candidate Oshadi Hewamadduma claiming that candidates unfit for Parliament have been granted nominations under the SLPP for the election.

Hewamadduma further said the party has nominated both donkeys and horses, adding that the public should be mindful of voting the horses to Parliament and sending the donkey’s home.

Responding to Hewamadduma’s comment, Rajapaksa said that he had informed her that not among the party but definitely there had been a donkey at the nominations board who had approved her candidacy.

Meanwhile, commenting on the upcoming polls, Basil Rajapaksa said it is pointless obtaining a majority, it is essential to obtain a 2/3rd majority in this election as the country requires a new constitution.

“We are contesting the General Election. I am glad to say that an individual who once said he would drag us down the road is now contesting the election from the SLPP. We are proud and with great love, we accepted the candidate’, he said.

He further assured that irrespective of obtaining the required 2/3rds majority, President Gotabay Rajapaksa will end the drug and underworld activities prevalent in the country with his exiting powers. (Newswire)
