The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has accused former Prime Minister and leader of the United National Party (UNP) Ranil Wickremesinghe of attempting to manipulate his votes in the Colombo district.

As per election laws and the Constitution of Sri Lanka, a group or party that has obtained at least 5% votes in the elections will secure a seat in Parliament.

The SJB claims a group of legal representatives of the UNP are attempting to recount the votes secured by UNP Colombo district candidate Ranil Wickremesinghe in violation of election laws.

The attempts are underway as the United Party has failed to secure the required 5% of votes from the Colombo district in the General elections, it added. (Newswire)
