The Madampe Police on Monday (24) arrested three individuals on charges of aiding, ill-treating, and sexually abusing a 15-year-old schoolgirl.
The child’s mother and grandmother were arrested on charges of aiding the crime and her uncle was arrested for sexually abusing her based on a complaint filed by the affected teenager.
The arrested persons have been identified as 58 and 35-year-old women and a 42-year- old man from the Manakkulama area in Kohombawatta.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the abused teenager’s parents lived separately and her grandmother was in charge of her and her two younger sisters.
As the teenager’s mother and grandmother had failed to take any action despite being informed of the incident, the child had been forced to inform the Police.
The suspects were arrested following investigations commenced by the Child and Women Bureau of the Madampe Police. (Newswire)
