The National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) has arrested a youth who had fled after impregnating a 15-year-old girl.

The girl is said to have met the youth in June 2019 while traveling on a bus to her uncle’s residence in Kandy following a dispute with her parents.

The two are said to have been involved in an affair since then.

Investigations have revealed that following one month of their affair, the youth had brought the girl to Delgoda, where they had lived together for a few days.

The girl, who was thereafter abandoned by the youth at the Fort Bus Station, had been admitted to the hospital where she had delivered a baby girl.

Doctors at the Hospital had then informed the NCPA in this regard, following which an investigation was launched.

The youth had been traced via his mobile number and was identified as a 22-year-old employee of a fruit shop at the Munneswaram Temple in Chilaw.

The man is said to have fled the area when authorities had arrived to arrest him but was later captured and produced in Court.

The NCPA said the youth has been remanded over the incident. (Newswire)
