The registration of the Sri Lanka Ballroom Dancing Federation was cancelled after a special inquiry conducted by the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs.

The Ministry said the registration was cancelled by terms of the powers vested with Minister Namal Rajapaksa under Section 32(c) of the Sports Act No. 25 of 1972.

The Ministry cited the federation’s failure to date to follow the procedures that are required to have been followed by a National Sports Association.

An inquiry into the matter was held and the following facts were presented as reasons for the cancellation of the Association.

  • Failure to get the Statement of Accounts for the years 2016/2017 audited.
  • Non-establishment of Provincial or District – level Sports Associations governed by the parent association.
  • Non-holding of sports competitions either locally or internationally.
  • Non- holding of the Annual General Meetings and Election. It was also confirmed that due to the fact that an incorrect address was given to the Ministry, letters and other correspondence were returned to sender.

The Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs said that based on the above mentioned facts the registration of the Sri Lanka Ballroom Dancing Federation was cancelled. (NewsWire)
