The owners of Crude Oil Tanker MT New Diamond have informed Attorney General (AG) Dappula de Livera of their agreement to settle fully the interim claim of Government stakeholders.

Coordinating Secretary to the AG State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne said the owners had agreed to settle the full claim for Rs 340 Million.

AG Dappula de Livera last week requested an initial compensation of Rs. 340 million from the ship owners based on the estimated cost incurred by Sri Lanka.

The oil tanker caught fire 38 nautical miles off Sangamankanda Point east of Sri Lankan seas on 3rd September.

The fire was contained due to the joint efforts of the Sri Lanka Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guards and other international assistance. (NewsWire)
