Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) says top foreign players may opt out of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) in November due to the COVID-19 measures recommended by the Ministry of Health for foreign players participating in the tournament.

According to the Daily Mirror, SLC Vice-President and LPL Tournament Director Ravin Wickramaratne said several top foreign players may drop out due to the 14-day mandatory quarantine process.

150 foreign players were shortlisted for the tournament with franchises being allowed to draft a maximum of six players in each franchise, he said.

Wickramaratne further said the 14-days mandatory quarantine process will see foreign players only being able to play in the latter part of the LPL, as the tournament commences 4-days after the conclusion of the Indian Premier League (10th November), adding that this could prompt the foreign players to opt out of the tournament.

“Nearly 59 players are still keen to participate in the LPL, but these players may not be top tier talent. We expect all the franchises to be sold during the course of this week,’ he said.

The SLC Vice President further said that the player draft of the LPL is scheduled for 01st October, with close to 12 interested parties, and it should be finalised around 26th September. (NewsWire)
