The Health Ministry expects that the Minuwangoda and Peliyagoda coronavirus clusters will require at least another month to be contained, the Daily Mirror reported.

Deputy Director General (Public Health) Dr. Hemantha Herath said the detection of over 100 cases will continue for another 1 1/2 weeks.

Considering the prevailing situation, the cluster is expected to be completed by another 06- weeks, he said.

Dr. Hemantha Herath pointed out that however, a comparative decline has been noted in the number of Covid cases being reported in the country at present.

The Health Ministry expects there will not be an increase in cases in the future, but this could change and create a surge if more cases are detected from unexpected areas in the country.

Deputy Director General (Public Health) said that the Government currently has a capacity of 1000 beds at 49 hospitals to treat coronavirus patients, but this could fluctuate depending on the number of cases being detected.

He further refuted reports that health authorities were passing the responsibility for the current outbreak on to the general public.

Health authorities have not evaded responsibility, but instead have been working around the clock to contain the outbreak, Dr. Hemanth Herath emphasized. (NewsWire)
