Army Commander Shavendra Silva says people are not allowed to leave Western Province with immediate effect.
However, no restrictions have been imposed on individuals entering the Province.
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa had instructed officials to prevent the public from leaving the Western Province in a meeting held earlier today.
The President said that since a large number of coronavirus patients have been detected in the Western Province, steps should be taken to prevent it from spreading to other areas.
